Meta: Webcomics Updated

I finally got around to updating my Webcomic reading page. Go have a look!

Meta: And we’re back!

Alright, I was able to restore my WordPress backup from October, manually re-add the blog entries I posted in Blogger, and made sure that everything at least mostly works. Cool. Tomorrow, a fresh blog post to celebrate!

Meta: Radio Silence

It’s been quiet here for the last week or so, for a few reasons:

  1. Halo 3: ODST came out a few weeks ago, and as an avid Halo fan (single-player, as I was never really in to multi-player) I’ve been working on beating the game in all difficulty modes. I recently just finished it in Heroic, and now I’m about half done Legendary. Proof? Right here (look under the Recent Games section).
  2. A conference! Last week, the company I work for hosted a conference that I provided technical support for (read: queuing up Power Point presentations and making sure the PA system worked). In other words, four 12+ hour days, followed by two days of catching up on my usual work.
  3. Left 4 Dead. Valve Software had a sale through Steam were you could grab Left 4 Dead for $15 USD, which sure beat the $45 CAD that the local Electronics Boutique wanted. I’ve been hammering away at that as well.
  4. Being social! I’ve actually been out with friendsĀ  a few times in the last few days, which has slightly limited the amount of time I’ve put in to screwing with random shit on the computer.

However, I’ll have a post up at some point later tonight with a note about Apple’s latest update to the iPhone OS, 3.1.2, and the jailbreak for it released by Geohot.

If you see this post, it means your DNS provider has picked up the new DNS information. Congrats!

Meta: More Intermittant Downtime

My ISP (Shaw Cable) is starting to be a real pain – they’re currently experiencing rolling outages in my area due to ‘line noise’. As such, the site will be up-and-down for a while, and I’m considering switching to ADSL and ditching cable, although I hope it doesn’t come to that….

Meta: WordPress Upgrade and Theme Change

I updated to the newly released WordPress 2.8 yesterday, which subsequently broke the theme I was using (iNove). I updated to the latest version of the theme, but wasn’t very happy with the search box in the header area, so today I switched to Pyrmont V2 and I must say that I’m really happy with it!

In other news, I’ll be swapping the hinges and LCD back cover on my wife’s Acer Aspire 9300, with before/during/after photos. The hinges on this model are very stiff and eventually break the plastic case, and then warp themselves rending the laptop a desktop. They’ve already been replaced under warranty, so now it’s my turn to take a crack at it. Also, her hard drive is starting to show signs of immediate-total-failure in the form of disk read errors on boot, so that’ll be swapped along the way.

Meta: Connectivity Problems – Expect Delays

I contacted my service provider regarding a connectivity issue this afternoon. They said they’d send a tech on Monday to check things out. After an hour and a half of downtime, and a lot of swearing, things came back up.

I’m still not cancelling the service call — this has happened too many times in the last few months for there not to be something wrong.
